Vietnamese

Vietnamese is widely spoken by approximately ninety million people in Vietnam. The Vietnamese Language Development project (VILD) is an audiovisual, longitudinal language acquisition corpus of daily life built between June 2022 and July 2024 in the north of Vietnam, in four rural areas outside of Hanoi, and features the Northern dialect. Around sixty families participated in the study.

The project is the result of a collaboration between the University of Languages and International Studies (ULIS) at Vietnam National University in Hanoi, and the Department of Comparative Language Science. It is led by Miranda Dickerman and Natalia Morozova under the supervision of Dagmar Jung and Sabine Stoll. Data collection efforts were managed with the help of research coordinator Mai Bui, Dr. Trang Phan, and Prof. Dr. Lam Quang Dong.
