Morphomes, understood at abstract morphological categories in paradigms that do not match meanings, have been argued to very very productive and resilient in Romance languages. In this paper, Borja Herce evaluates this by looking at new patters of alternation related to stem-final consonant loss that occurred independently in the different languages rather than in the common ancestor. The results suggest that although morphemic structure is very important in the paradigm, so are token frequency and feature values.
