On Thursday, 5 October 2023, the Pontifica Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP) celebrated the opening of their Chana research station at San José de Yarinacocha, Pucallpa. The research station will serve as a space of research and cultural gathering for the preservation and strengthening of Amazonian native languages.
The project is a collaboration of the Department of Humanities, PUCP, the Department of Comparative Language Science, UZH, and the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, Leipzig.

The inauguration event was attended by Roberto Zariquiey, PUCP / head of Chana field station; Aldo Panfichi, PUCP Vice Chancellor of Research; Russell Gray, director of the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology; Balthasar Bickel, UZH / director of the NCCR Evolving Language; Fidel Tubino, PUCP Department of Humanities; representatives of UNIA; leaders of Amazonian communities; and various researchers.
