Jessica K. Ivani and Balthasar Bickel recently published a preprint of a book chapter "Databases for comparative syntactic research" for the Handbook of Comparative Syntax, Cambridge University Press. Based on a survey of 20+ publicly available syntactic databases, they demonstrate that these resources can be categorised along two dimensions, units of description and design principle. They describe these dimensions and their implementation in syntactic databases, outlining their descriptive power and trade-offs, and we propose desiderata for future modern databases in linguistics.
