A new milestone was reached, as an AI system developed by Google DeepMind was able to solve problems from the International Mathematical Olympiad almost perfectly. Sebastian Krapp and Sandro Della Torre commented on these recent achievements of large language models within mathematics. In their interview with the science magazine SRF 4 on the 19th of September, they explained why this does not mean that AI can be a good mathematician yet.
