I’m a PhD student in the Conceptual Areas project of the Anthropological Linguistics group, wherein I’m working on the East African Rift valley as a language area. The project will use both statistical methods and field work to find shared lexical structure in areas of intense language contact between diverse language families, especially when languages come to share lexical structure without necessarily sharing lexical forms. In a broader sense the project is interested in the historical dynamics of language contact in the Rift Valley, and in the influence that areal effects have on deep language structure generally.
Otherwise I am also interested in all aspects of language description and documentation, typology (statistical or otherwise), and (structural) language diversity.
