Interested candidates must submit their application for the specialized Master of Science in Evolutionary Language Science via the study program online application portal. You can access it here.
The study program can accept a maximum of 20 students per year. The first decision on admission to the study program is made by the Study Program Admission Committee. There is no entitlement to admission.
Enrolment is possible only in the Fall semester of each academic year.
The application and selection process for the candidates takes place in two consecutive phases:
(1) An academic assessment phase. Deadline: 28 February 2025, or until all places have been filled;
(2) An administrative assessment phase. Deadline: 08 April 2025 (Group 1); 30 April 2025 (Group 2).
Each phase includes multiple stages.

The Study Program Admission Committee checks the required academic prerequisites for the program and selects the best candidates. All the required documents (full list: here) must be submitted via the study program online application portal (Link: here). Important: You will receive a confirmation email upon submitting your application. |
Based on an exceptional dossier the applicant is admitted to an oral interview to further evaluate their prerequisite knowledge related to evolutionary language science. Interviews will take place in March for all invited students (UZH, non-UZH, with visa requirements). |

Timeline and Deadlines |
The application window opens on 01 January 2025. Deadline: 28 February 2025 or until all places have been filled. We strongly recommend submitting your application by 14 February 2025 at the latest to allow time to address any missing documents. |

Procedure |
2.1 Administrative check of documents |
The Student Services Office of the University of Zurich verifies the formal validity of the documents submitted by preselected students—such as the existence of a bachelor's degree from a recognised university—and may request additional documents, such as an English language certificate. |

2.2 Final acceptance (or rejection) | |
Based on this administrative check, the student will either receive a letter of rejection or a letter of acceptance, inviting them to finalize their application by submitting additional documents through the UZH application portal. The link to the portal will be sent via email to admitted students. |
